The man behind the Herb Garden fanzine and Glamorous Hooligan band was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire. Has worked on numerous film productions as a script doctor. Currently lives in Cottingley, West Yorkshire. Works frequently with Irvine Welsh. In 2003 was BAFTA nominated for his half hour comedy "Dose" co-written with Irvine Welsh and starring Julia Davis, Jonathon Lewis Owen and Kate Jarman. His stage play, "Babylon Heights", also co-written with Irvine Welsh premiered at The Exit Theatre, San Francisco in June 2006 before transferring to Dublin. Dean is currently writing and co-producing the cult Internet series "Svengali!" starring Jonathan Owen, Alan McGee, Roger Evans and Sally Phillips, directed by Phil John. Cavanagh and Welsh are currently developing a number of feature length screenplays..
