It’s Stan Collymore’s 44th birthday today and we’re celebrating by remembering his greatest goals.
Controversy off the pitch has somewhat overshadowed what a great player Collymore was on it. In a career that spanned nine professional clubs, Collymore proved that he was not just a great goalscorer but a scorer of great goals.
Here are the six most memorable from Collymore’s career.
6. For Liverpool against Newcastle
This isn’t the best goal he scored by a long chalk but probably his most significant. It’s the winner in Liverpool’s famous 4-3 victory over Newcastle that derailed the Magpies’ title challenge.
5. For Leicester against Sunderland
After an unhappy spell at Aston Villa, Collymore moved to Leicester on a free transfer and opened his account with this cracker against Sunderland as he bagged a hat-trick.
4. For Nottingham Forest against Manchester United
Collymore scored plenty of spectacular goals like this during his time at Forest but it wasn’t everyday that they came against opposition like Manchester United.
3. For Liverpool against Sheffield Wednesday
Another spectacular debut goal. Collymore marked his £8.5m transfer to Liverpool with this long range effort against Sheffield Wednesday.
2. For Bradford against Leeds
Another debut, another ridiculous goal. Collymore’s brief spell at Bradford started brightly with an overhead kick against local rivals Leeds.
1. For Nottingham Forest against Wimbledon
Picking up the ball in his own half, Collymore showcases his skill and power as he strides through the Wimbledon defence and powers home.
