When you trawl the day's transfer rumours there's normally a few that you can immediately dismiss as pure fantasy. One such story appeared in today's Telegraph but upon giving it a little thought, you might come to the conclusion that there's something in it.
Matt Law claims that Chelsea are considering replacements for reserve goalkeeper Petr Cech and that the Spurs veteran Brad Friedel is on the shortlist.
While it seems likely that a goalkeeper as good as Cech will leave Chelsea sooner rather than later, it seems an excessively backward step to move for Friedel - third choice keeper at Spurs - who will turn 44 in May.
Yet the American has always retained high standards and was playing semi-regulaly for Tottenham as recently as last season. He will be available on a free transfer in the summer and could be a cheap, short term solution to the problem, giving Chelsea time to find a more permanent solution.
What do you think? A goer or just a way to fill a newspaper on a slow day?
