Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud is the most potent striker in the Premier League right now and the stats prove it.
Many a striker’s reputation has been fraudulently enhanced by a large percentage of penalties amongst their goal tallies. Giroud’s unhelpful Arsenal teammates generally don’t let him anywhere near the 12-yard spot, leaving him largely reduced to having to score goals from open play.
And do you know what? He’s pretty good at it. When analysing the goal-rate of Premier League players from open play, it is Giroud that tops the list with a strike for every 96 minutes on the pitch.
That puts him ahead of Diego Costa on 102 minutes and Harry Kane at 109, while Sergio Aguero (140) and Wayne Rooney (229) are revealed as chancers of the highest degree.
