23.44: Arsenal players react to Ozil signing:
23.40: It's cööl, if Giroud gets injured we'll just play 4-6-0, no biggie.
23:15: Jose Mourinho f***d Arsenal over by waiting until the very last minute to reject their Demba Ba offer. This meant they didn't have enough time to search for another striker. Wenger should have known better, placing all his eggs in one Mourinho-made basket. Never a good idea.
23.08: Wenger was the reason Ozil chose Arsenal over PSG, who offered more money:
23.05: Struggling to contain my excitement. AMBITION.
23.00: Wenger leaves Ozil deal to last 30 minutes of the transfer window.....
22.50: Ozil says Arsene Wenger is everything he's been looking for and was key to his move to Arsenal.
22.40: MESUT OZIL: “From our negotiations it is clear the Club has huge ambition and I look forward to being part of an exciting future". ”now I’m looking forward to my new club: THE GUNNERS!" MESUT'S A GOONER!
22.35: ARSENE WENGER: "
We are extremely pleased to have signed Mesut Ozil. He is a great player, with proven quality at both club and international level. We have watched and admired him for some time as he has all the attributes I look for in an Arsenal player."
22.30: IT'S OFFICIAL! ARSENAL HAVE SIGNED MESUT OZIL, OUR MOST EXCITING TRANSFER SINCE RIOCH GOT BERGKAMP.
22.00: SKY SPORTS NEWS, MESUT OZIL UPDATE: "this deal will still take a little bit longer but Arsenal are confident of completeing the deal before the 11pm deadline" 5-year contract offered, now just a question of sorting out the final complications. Size of transfer fee involved the reason for the delay, lots of paperwork to finish off etc. POSITIVE NEWS! Hold tight, Gooners.
21.40: BREAKING: ARSENAL SUBMIT £12M BID FOR SOUTHAMPTON PLAYER, LIKELY TO BE CENTRAL MIDFIELDER MORGAN SCHNEIDERLIN
21.25: DEMBA BA TWIST! Reliable journalist Kike Marin tweets that Chelsea are willing to give Ba to Arsenal...more to follow
21.15: It's all gone a bit quiet. Hold me. Tell me everything's gonna be alright.
21.00: Bendtner is staying. I hope that isn't our plan C. Because if it is, well...the picture below says it all.
20.50: Must read story! Perhaps Arsenal's negotiating team should take note of this: In the late 1920s, legendary manager Herbert Chapman devised a devious tactic in order to persuade Bolton's star striker, David Jack, to join the club for a fee below the asking price. During discussions at a hotel bar, Chapman told the barman to serve him gin and tonic with no gin, and his assistant, Bob Wall, whiskey and dry ginger with no whiskey. He then requested for Bolton's chairman and Jack to receive doubles. Funnily enough the transfer was confirmed that evening, with Arsenal signing the player for a knock-off price! Oh Mr Chapman, you evil genius...any chance of Arsene getting Real Madrid's president Perez trashed?
20.35: So with the Ba deal off, and a bit of hush regarding Benzema and Arsenal, who is our plan C?
Please not Kalou. Please not Kalou. Please not Kalou. Please not Kalou.
...It's going to be Kalou, isn't it? *sobs*
20.30: Atletico Madrid just confirmed on their website the signings of reported Arsenal targets Toby Alderweireld (CB) and Josuha Guilavogui (DM). Can't sign 'em all, I guess. Hey, with Sanogo, Flamini AND Viviano, we've been spoilt enough...
20.25: DEMBA BA DEAL IS A NO GO - confirmed by @bbcsport_David and @johncrossmirror. Chelsea not prepared to sell to a rival. Hope Wenger has a plan B; striker is arguably the most important area for Arsenal to strengthen. With Podolski out for a while and only Sanogo as a back-up, an injury to Giroud would be big trouble for the Gunners.
20.20: How would you have reacted yesterday if I'd told you by 20.30 Arsenal's only deadline day signing to join Sanogo and Flamini would be goalkeeper Emilio Viviano? Just a thought...
20.17: GERMAN TEAM MATE BOATENG WISHES MESUT OZIL GOOD LUCK AT ARSENAL - DONE DEAL?
20.12: OK, I think it's time to officially get excited...
20.01: BAD BA NEWS...Sky saying Chelsea have agreed terms for Ba with an unnamed club, but have rejected offers from Arsenal and Tottenham.Ba wants to play for a club in Champions League.
20.00: After a slight technical difficulty, we're back. Viviano signing confirmed by Arsenal.
Talksport say Ozil deal is complete.
According to Marca, Ba has passed a medical at Arsenal
17.30: Give this man a medal.
17.20: Further confirmation of Viviano's transfer: deal confirmed by Palermo chairman.
17.15: Special mention to Spurs and their partnership with Real Madrid. Great work, Levy. No really, superb. Sell your best player to them, and they sell us the best no.10 in the world. Can't smile without you.
17.10: BREAKING: MESUT OZIL COMPLETES ARSENAL MEDICAL - SKY SPORTS SAY TRANSFER WILL BE CONFIRMED BY 6PM
16.45: BREAKING: DI MARIA IN "ADVANCED TALKS" WITH ARSENAL
16.30: Holy mother of God. Can she play centre back?
So, Mandy Capristo, what attracted you to multi-millionaire, Steve Buscemi lookalike Mesut Ozil?
16.15: Where would Mesut Ozil play for Arsenal? In a 4-3-3 formation, with a fully fit squad, it would probably be him, Arteta and Ramsey as the midfield trio, with Walcott on the right flank and Cazorla on the left. With Arteta, there would be a disciplined, technically superb holding player in midfield, with the box-to-box Ramsey alongside him providing attacking energy and defensive work rate. This would provide the necessary balance for the creative brilliance of Ozil to complete the triumvirate. With the pace of Walcott and the all-round excellence of Cazorla on either wing, plus the presence of Giroud up front, Arsenal would have a real variety of attacking strengths and would be difficult to contain. Very exciting indeed.
16.00: DEMBA BA NEWS
15.30: Since he joined La Liga in 2010, Özil has created 324 chances - 113 more than any other player. WOW. (via @socastats).
"Ozil is unique. There is no copy of him – not even a bad copy. He is the best No.10 in the world" - Jose Mourinho
15:12: Bendtner seen leaving Crystal Palace's training ground. What a strike partnership he and Chamakh would be...
15.06: BREAKING: Sky Italia Presenter Confirms To Sky Sports News that Arsenal have signed Emiliano Viviano. £1M fee for a season-long loan with option to buy at the end. How will this impact Szczesny?
15.00: POSITIVE OZIL NEWS
14:07: Interesting twist to Arsenal's Demba Ba pursuit:
14.04: BREAKING DEMBA BA NEWS:
14.00: Wenger on Demba Ba back in January 2013: 'He scored 13 goals before he went to Chelsea. He's a very efficient centre forward'. We could do with one of them, Arsene.
13.55: No chance of Suarez coming in then...
13.50: DEMBA BA LATEST: Sky Sports confirm Al-Jazeera's news about the striker, saying Arsenal have made a formal enquiry. With Samuel Eto'o recently coming in, it is likely Chelsea will let Ba go, for a year's loan at least.
13.41: Blimey, Ozil's stats are far superior to Andres Iniesta. Crazy...what a signing he could be! Wrap it up, Arsenal!
13.31: Podolski making new team mate Ozil (fingers crossed) feel welcome! Great work, Poldi!
13.30: JUSTICE FOR VIVIANO!
13.09: BREAKING: DEMBA BA SET TO JOIN ARSENAL ON SEASON-LONG LOAN
13.07: If we sign Ozil, Di Maria and Ba, plus sell Bendtner, this would be the best deadline day, ever.
13.02: Spanish newspaper Marca say Bendtner could join Valencia on a free transfer. Take him, we'll pay for the flights.
12.57: Real Madrid fans chanting, "don't sell Ozil!" at Gareth Bale's unveiling, according to @SidLowe. Come on, Mr Perez, don't listen to them.
12.51: Sky Germany correspondent says on Sky Sports News that Bayern Munich and Germany national team doctors are carrying out Ozil's medical at this very moment.
12.45: According to various reliable sources, Demba Ba is Arsenal's prime target to bolster the forward line. Giroud showed against Tottenham what he's all about; hard work, link up play and goals, but we desperately need another striker. Ba will provide some pace which is important, as Giroud is lacking in this area. Fingers crossed.
12.40: Ozil deal almost complete, Di Maria next. This certainly beats Andre Santos and Park Chu-Young.
12.33: Exclusive picture of Mesut Ozil's transfer negotiations with Arsenal:
12.30: Hold tight, Gooners, and pray Ozil hasn't got a dodgy knee.
12.05: This me at the thought of Ozil, Cazorla and Wilshere in the same team...
12.00: Join the club...
11.55: 71 assists in 158 games for Real Madrid...What a signing Ozil would be. All the journalists saying a fee of €50M agreed, just about personal terms and medical now.
11.45: IT'S HAPPENING
11.40: SOMEONE HOLD ME
11.30: BREAKING: Arsene Wenger spotted in a North London McDonald's buying a McChicken Sandwich for 99p. More to follow...
Come on Liverpool, be nice.
11.20: Ozil has traveled to join the German national team squad, say Sky Sports. Therefore any potential medical will be held in Germany. How selfish.
11.16: BULLET DODGED - Gareth Barry close to joining Everton. Somewhere in the world an Arsenal fan puts down his rope and steps off the bed.
11.09: Reported Arsenal target Josuha Guilavogui, a French international who plays defensive mid, joins Atletico Madrid for £8.5 million from Saint-Etienne. Oh well, we've got Flamini, everything is going to be OK, right?
11.04: Sound the HIJACK KLAXON. Manchester United want Ozil. Oh wait, Sky Sports now saying they don't. Pfft. If one of the world's best playmakers is available of course they'd be interested. Come on Arsenal, stand yo' ground.
10.47: BREAKING! ARSENAL HAVE SIGNED SOMEONE!
Just in from Italian journo @mirkocorli
10.40: Wojciech knows. We won the league...
10.30: Sky Sports say a senior source told them capturing Ozil will be "very difficult but not impossible" and "a very complicated deal to pull off". The German doesn't want to leave Madrid, apparently. Mainly because he earns a crust in the evenings doubling as a 3d version of Munch's The Scream.
10.30: Aerial view of North London this morning:
10.20: This, by @Gunnerblog, is definitely the highlight of deadline day so far. "Walk up to a club, like what up? I brought my war chest? Nah I'm just kidding - you know I don't like to invest". Lyrical genius!
10.18:All I want for deadline day is one Mesut Ozil. Imagine that. Ozil, Cazorla and Wilshere - stuff dreams are made of. Wet dreams.
10.04: I'll be taking you on a journey, a journey that could end in either tears of joy, or tears of frustration, anger and misery. Will Arsene Wenger overcome that unfathomable notion of spending money on football players? A question I did not expect I'd be asking come August 2nd, but there you go. Mesut Ozil is in "advanced talks" apparently, but so too were Higuain and Suarez. And Gustavo. And Bernard. Regardless, it looks set to be an eventful day, so stay tuned, folks.
