It’s the silly season in football – do you love it or hate it?

Love it, renewed sense of delusions all round.

This summer what are you hoping to read every time you check your club news each morning?

The words Shay Given, Craig Bellamy, Robbie Keane or even Craig Gordon.

What do you inevitably end up reading instead?

Free transfers from the Championship and bargains from likes of Israel and Kenya.

Got much cash in the kitty?

We’ve enough for one biggish signing left but silverware and Champions League qualification would then become a must.

Hulking midfielder? Tricky winger? Big b*stard defender? What types of players would you like to sign this summer?

A good centre forward would be ideal. Goalscorer but big and tough enough to deal with the rigours of the SPL. A decent goalkeeper is required too. Rangers keeper Allan MacGregor effectively won the league for them last year with his decisive penalty save in the last Old Firm derby and we need a keeper of a similar standard. Fraser Foster did an unspectacular and solid job (on loan from Newcastle). His permanent signing would appease most fans but if not then we need someone of the standard of Shay Given or Craig Gordon.

Emilio Izaguirre and Baram Kayal were both inspired business last season.

What types of player will you end up signing instead? An U21 Moldovan left back instead of Spanish international forward perhaps?

We’ll end up signing more players from developing football nations. Some will be good, others will be not so.

Who wants to leave the club and what’s your attitude towards them?

Ljunberg and Hinkel have gone. Both way, way, way past their prime. Daryll Murphy wants to go too and he’ll not be a great loss. Premiership interest in Emilio Izaguirre seems to have cooled which is always good.

Who has been the biggest tosser of this transfer window?

Kenny Miller.

Reckon you’ll be stronger or weaker next season?

Stronger, three new signings in Adam Matthews (Cardiff), Kelvin Wilson (Nottingham Forest) and Kenyan international Victor Wanyama all bode well and with plenty more names going through the rumour mill there should be a few more to come.

Any other news?

Shaun Maloney back to full fitness and Neil Lennon has deservedly signed a new contract.

What has been the best ever bit of business your club did in the transfer window?

Emilio Izaguirre and Baram Kayal were both inspired business last season.

And the worst?

Raphael Felipe Scheidt. Signed in 1999 by the John Barnes/Kenny Dalgleish axis of misery for a then small fortune of £5m. Played three games before ultimately living up to his name and being punted to Corinthians on loan by Martin O’Neill. Surprisingly managed to get 3 caps for Brazil.
