Benfica Tell Liverpool That Johnson Replacement Costs £4Million
According to the Mirror, Liverpool are targeting Benfica's Maxi Pereira as a potential replacement for contract rebel and Roma target, Glen Johnson. The Englishmen hasn't exactly been brilliant for Liverpool of late and is sensing that this may be the opportune moment to leave the club as his contract runs out in the summer. Johnson is being courted by Roma and could follow fellow English full-back Ashley Cole there.
The 30-year-old Pereira has the experience and grit to be a very useful player for Liverpool. Benfica have quoted Liverpool £4million for the Uruguayan which could turn out to be a bargain, especially considering South Americans are SO in vogue right now. However, Brendan Rodgers may opt to wait until the summer when Maxi Pereira's contract runs out, but that wouldn't really fit with the Northern Irishman's overspending record, would it?
