Louis Van Gaal has dropped the biggest hint yet about his future as Man Utd boss (Manchester Evening News), and it all depends on his wife.
Van Gaal's current contract expires at the end of June 2017, with him talking about winning silverware before the end of his deal. He has won league titles in Holland, Germany and Spain, and has won silverware at all of his previous clubs, and United are currently leading the way in the Premier League.
He said, “We still need time to improve because we have to improve to win the championship of the Premier League or a tournament like the Champions League.” When asked whether he could achieve this in the next 2 years, he said, "I hope so, that is realistic."
He was asked whether he would stay beyond the current deal if he felt it was right, “Normally I shall leave after next year but what is normal in our football world?”
“You never know so I cannot answer that question but I promised my wife to go with her to our paradise (in Portugal) so it shall be very hard for me to deny that promise."
Van Gaal promised his wife that he would retire at the end of his Man Utd contract, after many years managing across Europe, and it appears he would find it difficult to renege on that.
