When Billy Reid knocked back the Swansea city job in 2010 to carry on “unfinished business” at New Douglas Park the Accies faithful breathed a collective sigh of relief. Reid the most successful manager in the history of Hamilton Academical football club left this week. Winning the first division title for the only time in the clubs history in 2007-08 keeping a young squad in the SPL for three seasons and nurturing talent such as James McCarthy ,James MacArthur and Brian Easton.

As Leeds fans prepare to dance with the devil as ex Manchester united and Chelsea striker and all round managerial failure Mark Hughes is touted for the job ,along with footballing dinosaur Martin O’Neill who would waft into Elland Road like a newly produced dog turd. The recently sacked Brian McDermott is also predictably one of the front runners for the job all incredibly dull appointments which send me reeling into a state of abject anger (Hughes) to a vegetive state of utter tedium (McDermott).

The next step in the history of our once great footballing giant needs a man at the helm who can lead other men into the realms of legend. A place inhabited by Billy Bremner, John Charles, Gordon Strachan, Gary speed, Tony Yeboah and the Don. Step forward Billy Reid, football genius the man who led the accies to the promised land of the SPL. The man who can lead Leeds United to the heights we were once accustomed too. Billy Reid you’re star is ready to shine again.

Granted this last season Reids Accies haven’t set the world on fire ,there has been rumblings amongst Hamilton’s dwindling support that it was time to go maybe he stayed too long ,Reid was the longest serving manager in Scotland putting in eight years hard graft at New Douglas Park, maybe Billy should have took the Swansea city job when offered it.

Poyet, O'Neill, Bruce, Grayson: Leeds' Manager Candidates Compared & Rated

20 Years On, What If Cantona Had Never Left Leeds?

This just shows the determination of the man, his loyalty to a club he loves and man faced with the adversity of relegation from the SPL, stays to see the job through, a manager like this is what our club needs, not another moaning Minnie like Warnock blaming all and sundry for his failures (including Tom Lees). Not an ex hero of the two teams Leeds fans love to hate above all others (Hughes), and certainly not the  combined dullness of either O’Neill or McDermott.

Someone at Elland Road ,whoever it is that makes managerial appointments these days needs to take a long look at Billy Reid, free agent, loyal to the last, promotion against all odds and three years in Scotland’s top league against all odds and give this man the job.

Another former Hamilton Accie and team mate of Reids has been doing a fine job in the premier league for Years now. A man similar to Reid the ever loyal Everton manager David Moyes man who is always touted for the top jobs at the top clubs in Europe, but has up until now stayed firm at a club he obviously loves, a man who defies the rules of logic and keeps the toffees up and around mid table season after season on a small budget. A man who will go on to greater things no doubt.

But, as we all suspect the club will go down the easy route of bringing in another name who all know (and probably) hate, a man like Hughes so abhorred by Leeds fans only the reappointment of Dennis Wise or the despicable Roy Keane could makes us all shudder that little bit more.

No! Leeds United its time for change! That change is Billy Reid...and if we cant get him maybe we should go for Jamie Carragher?
