As if Liverpool didn’t have a hard enough task on their hands persuading Raheem Sterling to sign a contract extension, another of their young England stars is reputedly stalling on a new deal.
The Daily Star reports that Jordan Henderson has turned down an £80,000 a year deal and is holding out for the sort of £100,000-a-week action that Sterling turned his nose up at.
Henderson only has one year left of his deal come the end of the season, so Liverpool will be faced with a tough decision if they can’t persuade their star midfielder to stay. Chelsea are said to be monitoring the situation and are ready to make a summer bid if Henderson refuses to commit to Anfield.
The 24-year old England international is in great goalscoring form right now with four goals in his last five Premier League appearances. He’s increasingly looking like the man to fill Steven Gerrard’s boots but Chelsea could decide that he’d be the perfect player to replace the midfield goals of Frank Lampard.
Liverpool fans, is Henderson worth breaking the bank for? And if they don’t, is he the right player for Chelsea?
