Chelsea Look To Trump Arsenal And Man Utd In Race For Scneiderlin
According to the Guardian, Chelsea have entered the race for Southampton's midfield general Morgan Schneiderlin, who's a long term Arsenal target, after sending scouts to watch him and Nathaniel Clyne on the weekend. Manchester United also hold a strong interest in the player.
Schneiderlin, 25, has been hugely impressive in the past couple of seasons and has proven himself to be one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League. For Arsenal and Manchester United, he's the perfect fit. For Chelsea, however, it makes less sense. Chelsea already have Matic, Ramires and Mikel and unless one or two were to leave, it seems unlikely Schneiderlin would want to move to a team where he'll most likely be a benchwarmer.
However, with Arsenal placing their faith in a resurgent Francis Coquelin, their interest in Schneiderlin seems to have cooled and Manchester United seem keener on Roma's Kevin Strootman, who Louis van Gaal knows so well from the Netherlands national side. So perhaps Chelsea are taking advantage whilst they can and their money is very hard to resist.
It's thought that £27million would be enough to prize Schneiderlin away and with Chelsea's Financial Fair Play compliance bonus, they can easily afford the Frenchman.
