Chelsea Prepare To Pounce On Champions League Winning Defender
According to the Daily Star, Chelsea are preparing a bid for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane if he opts to leave the Champions League holders in the summer. With Terry only getting older and Cahill not as convincing as he used to be, Chelsea could feel it's time to add to Zouma and completely freshen up their central defence.
Varane has expressed his concerns about his chances of becoming a starter in Madrid and is thought to be looking for a new challenge and more playing time.
Varane said that "the competition with Pepe is not in my best interests, and it won't be in the future."
That statement seems to have alerted many top European clubs, but Chelsea stand alone as the front runners. Jose Mourinho has worked with Varane before and actually used him a fair amount in his days at Real Madrid, which could play a factor in making up the defender's mind. Chelsea also have huge financial capacity and are willing to pay up to £35million for the French 21-year-old.
