Chelsea Ready To Trigger Arsenal Target's £14M Release Clause
Chelsea are preparing to trigger the £13.6million release clause of Valencia's Spanish left-back Jose Luis Gaya. Gaya is very highly rated indeed and has been tracked by Arsenal for some time.
However, according to the Daily Star, it's Chelsea who look to be in pole position as they are willing to use Brazilian left-back Felipe Luis as bit-part bait. The 29-year-old would go the other way, on a loan perhaps, to soften the blow for Valencia.
Gaya, 19, recently rejected a contact extension offer from Valencia which would see his release clause rise to £35million. Valencia are unlikely to table a new offer until the summer and Chelsea are primed to come between negotiations. Arsenal aren't their only competition, however, with Real Madrid also interested. Neither one of those clubs can be ruled out as of yet and Real Madrid's pull-factor for Spanish players will be a worry for Chelsea.
For now at least, Chelsea seem the most likely to take Gaya to England and their Felipe Luis shaped bargaining chip may make the difference.
