FC Ausburg have announced the signing of left-back Philipp Max from Karlsruher SC, thus suggesting that Chelsea are close to signing Arsenal target Abdul Baba Rahman.
"We are pleased that we could win a young and talented German player for us with Philipp Max, who has taken in the last season at KSC a great development," said FCA Managing Sport Stefan Reuter. "We are convinced that he can continue this development with us and will make the next step."
Although it all sounds very routine, this very much seems like a replacement job - or at least positional strengthening in the knowledge that they will see another left-back leave.
Chelsea were thought to have given up on Baba Rahman and moved onto Spurs Danny Rose, but this latest twist suggests the deal is still very much on.
The Ghanian 21-year-old has also been scouted by Arsenal, but Chelsea are thought to be the frontrunners as the Gunners have no immediate need for a left-back.
