Well that's 90 minutes of my life I will never get back. Let's just say Aston Villa v Stoke City was not the greatest advert for the glorious Premier League. It was so bad that Stoke only sold half of their ticket allocation, unheard of for a Midlands derby.

But then again if I had to watch Stoke City every week then I wouldn't bother getting out of bed if the game was in my living room let alone driving down the M6 to see them.

The usual applause for Petrov in the 19th minute was the only time anyone was going to stand and clap anything in the game. Villa were the better side and as the Premier League can only be viewed through the prism of money I can't grumble at duck eggs all around.
Stoke City have spent big over the last couple of years, a lot more than the Villa, their wage bill is proof of that so it is a decent point for our young cheap side. I was worried the giants of Stoke would go through our kids like a dose of salts but Lambert has got our team playing for each other, something we've not seen down the Villa for the years.

The system he is playing seems to work, but it would be blinding if Barry Bannan could actually pass instead of spraying balls into the stands every five minutes.

Ashley Westwood has been a real find from the lower leagues, he is in the mould of Kevin Richardson and Andy Townsend. He always wants the ball, he'll have it anywhere and he makes our team tick by keeping the ball moving.

Aston Villa's Future Is Bright With Lambo's Lambs

Darren Bent came on in the second half and was about as useful as a c**k flavoured lollipop.

None of the talk before the match in the pub was about Bent like it is in the national media because fans who go the games know that we don't miss him. The Match of the Day Aston Villa fans are probably the ones who are in the Bent camp. If we still had Ashley Young and some demon wingers who can create chances then Bent would be first on the teamsheet. But we haven't and we can't afford to have a player ghosting about and not helping create chances.

In Benteke we have someone who will chase balls down and bully defenders, he's not the finished article but he's young and hungry and down the Villa we love that.

Gabby is flickering back to life but he was never going to get a penalty, I was told we have not had a penalty in 40 league games, which seems only right as we are hardly camped in the opposition's box.

But the most important aspect of the game was not to pick up any injuries ahead of the crunch game in the League Cup on Tuesday.

If we win against Norwich we will be in the semi-finals and a great day in London on the megabooze beckons. And the chance of actually winning a competition is exciting, because it is not like we will ever win the money mad Premier League is it? Imagine that, entering a competition every year knowing we can never ever win it unless some fosil fuel raping billionaire buys us, and paying good money to see dross like Stoke City and Aston Villa, we must be mad.
