Derby County v Notts Forest: Cloughie's Pitch Invader Guide
High-flying Derby faced their struggling rivals Nottingham Forest at the weekend and the game was typically eventful and explosive.
The match looked like it was going to form as Derby took a first-half lead but Forest fought back and scored two late goals to snatch a surprise victory. With tensions running high, it all got too much for one Derby fan, who raced onto the pitch the attack the Forest defender Kelvin Wilson.
It’s not the first time that this fixture has seen problems with pitch invaders, with the game at the City Ground earlier this season seeing a number fans disrupting the game.
It got us thinking about a possible solution and the answer might rest with a man that managed both clubs. Brian Clough.
Clough had a no-nonsense approach to dealing with pitch invaders that is best demonstrated in this video which shows the eccentric manager in action as he removes unwanted guests from his manor, during a game between Forest and QPR.
As fans swarmed on the pitch, Clough wandered around randomly slapping folk as if he were a participant in a Royal Rumble. We can’t help thinking that the current generation of fans would be less inclined to run onto the pitch if they had this sort of treatment waiting for them.
