Eder Balanta: Why Liverpool Should Sign The Colombian Beast
Linked with Man United in January, River Plate’s young Colombian defender Eder Alvarez Balanta has reportedly been in talks to sign for Valencia but it should be the north-west where he heads, to the Scouse revolution under Brendan Rodgers rather than United’s Dutch revamp.
Combining the body of a light-heavyweight boxer with the technique of a passing midfielder, the 21-year-old Colombian impressed in their 4-1 win over Japan at the World Cup and is rated extremely highly by a number of top clubs (including Barcelona). He’s been compared to Los Cafeteros legends like Jorge Bermúdez and Internazionale’s Ivan Cordoba, if you’re still not convinced of his credentials (he’s also an absolute monster on FM14).
River chairman Omar Solassi recently said Balanta’s worth £15million and, when the player was linked with a move to Barça, said “Balanta is not like Mascherano nor like Pique; he is a different sort of player with more presence. He is a strong defender, is good on the ball and knows how to play going forward.”
Better get the chequebook out, Brendo, lad.
