Fans Half-Term Reports: Arsenal

The football is beautiful and Nasri is playing like a dream, but Wenger's myopic stance on a decent goalkeeper and commanding centre-half are holding the club back.

What's going well? The team's passing and movement is still a joy to behold. Arsenal remain the best team to watch in the Premier League.

What's not going so well? The backline is still shaky. There is no confidence amongst fans that we can keep a lead anymore, against any opposition, although in fairness they did ok at Old Trafford.. There is still a lack of belief amongst players that they can see off the challenge of United or Chelsea in head to head encounters, which is frustrating, as Fergie's and Ancelotti's teams are hardly infallible themselves.

Is the manager right for us? Yes - but he's not being line managed effectively enough from within the club, in my opinion. For him not to buy a new 'keeper in the Summer was bordering on professional negligence. Additionally, he should have nabbed Hangeland from Fulham a while back to pair him with Vermaelen. That would have given us two powerful centre backs to effectively counter Rooney or Drogba in those matches which we always seem to lose.

Star Player? Samir Nasri has been outstanding for the first few months of the season. What he needs to do now is shine in one of the "death or glory" encounters to push on to the next level. The same could be said of the whole team, though.

Who would you sell in January? I'd offload Manuel Almunia sharpish. He should never play for Arsenal again. Nice guy - but one error too many means he'd be better off starting afresh elsewhere.

I hate to admit it, but Gareth Bale has been a revelation this season. Hopefully someone abroad will snap him up, and push Tottenham towards yet another false dawn.

Who Would you sign in January? Hangeland from Fulham to slot alongside a (hopefully soon to be fit) Vermaelen. Wenger stated that a couple of years ago, Hangeland was "too loyal to Fulham" to leave Craven Cottage. That would give us 2 top class centre backs who attack the ball on the front foot. I suspect that a slight loosening of the purse strings would end his loyalty. I'd wait and see how the goalkeeping situation pans out and move in for the kill in the summer if I were Arsene.

Best chant? Nothing I can think of yet - let's see if we close in on silverware and then come up with a new one.

Best opposition player? I hate to admit it, but Gareth Bale has been a revelation this season. Hopefully someone abroad will snap him up, and push Tottenham towards yet another false dawn.

Biggest c**t? Ashley Cole. Always will be too.

Any other news? Yes - a mate of mine who lives in Turin claims to have seen Nicolas Bendtner in an upmarket estate agents, looking for property out in Italy. So the great Dane might be off to Serie A sooner rather than later. Or maybe not.

Prediction? Ok - we'll end our silverware avoidance policy and win the Carling Cup, finish third in the league (the usual suspects will finish above us though not sure in which order) and probably get outclassed by Barca, in all honesty.
