Jose Mourinho acted in the final weeks of the transfer window and brought in Pedro from Barcelona, Papy Djilobodji from Nantes and Michael Hector from Reading, but the one big deal they were aiming for didn't quite go through.
Much has been made of Paul Pogba's exit from Manchester United, with it going down as one of Sir Alex Ferguson's biggest regrets. The Juventus midfielder is now one of the hottest properties in world football, and rumours of a Real Madrid move next summer may be the reason the France international turned down a last minute move to the Blues.
The story comes from Italian newspaper, La Gazzetta dello sport http://www.gazzetta.it/Calciomercato/03-09-2015/pogba-si-preso-juventus-il-no-chelsea-85-milioni-1201211404015.shtml?refresh_ce-cp
The rumour is that after losing Andrea Pirlo and selling Arturo Vidal to Bayern Munich, that Juventus were keen to keep hold of their prized asset, but the fact that a fee was agreed suggests that Juve will allow the player to move on should the right fee be triggered. That will encourage Mourinho and Chelsea, who could move again in the January transfer window to bolster their midfield.
Pogba was in action on Friday night as France defeated Portugal 1-0, and will be again as they face Serbia in Bordeaux on Monday.
