Fancy having a chat about football? Want to get involved in a discussion on what’s alright with the game, an what’s doing everyone’s head in? How about being in the same room as proto-Barton-without-the-nonsense, indie footballer Pat Nevin, does that sound good? Of course it does.
Un-Convention, an award-winning cultural enterprise based in Manchester, are presenting their first three day festival on home soil on Frday the 9th of November at the National Football Museum. Un-Convention Football aims to celebrate the beautiful game’s role in uniting, engaging and inspiring communities all over the world, bringing together key football organisations such as Manchester City In The Community, The Manchester United Foundation, Football Against Racism and The Football Supporters Federation.
Over the past 3 years, Un-Convention has delivered 34 music-based events around the world developing initiatives suggested by its global community of musicians, creatives and entrepreneurs. These have included the development of a touring network; sharing models of best practice; development of music cooperatives in places like Uganda, international mentoring schemes and a music equipment recycling scheme. Now it hopes to explore similar opportunities in the realms of football.
Through inspirational talks from ex-players, football club representatives, musicians, fans and journalists, Un-Convention Football will address some of footballs hottest topics, looking at how football inspires, engages and unifies people as well as what the game means to them. Alongside all of this there will be music from The Whip and Franco & The Dreadnoughts, and the museum will be staying open late to allow guests to explore its interactive exhibitions.
Sabotage Times contributors, in the form of the creators of STAND (http://www.sabotagetimes.com/football-sport/stand-against-modern-football/) and The Rig Out (http://www.sabotagetimes.com/fashion-style/glens-fashion-folio/) will be in attendance and discussing the future of football. Come down. It’s going to be ace, and Pat Nevin’s going to be there. Pat Nevin!
