On Monday the YEP reported that Leeds were aiming to have a loan striker by the time of the Millwall game this Saturday, but Brian Mac has since urged patience from the fans over any potential moves. Leeds have nonetheless been missing a player to combine pace with goals ever since Mad Max left for St Etienne, so a loan move for a striker is definitely not out of the question. On that note, here's a run down of five players we've been strongly linked with, and one we haven't:
Current Club: Southampton
Career Goals: 141
Last Season Form: 11 goals in 41 games (on loan at Notts Forest)
How Available Is He? Frozen out by his current club, and potentially available on loan at a cut-price rate. Other Championship clubs will be looking however.
Is He Right For Us? As an old school poacher, with a bit of pace and an eye for goal, Sharp could certainly do a job for us. Not by any means a world-beater, but fairly decent at Championship level. Would be an improvement on Hunt, but not a long term solution.
Overall Rating: 7/10
Current Club: Norwich
Career Goals: 87
Last Season Form: 20 goals in 31 for Leeds, but 0 in 8 for Norwich
Is He Available? God knows why Norwich Signed him at all. Poor Luciano has no chance of ousting Gary Hooper and Van Wolfswinkel from the current side.
Is He Right For Us? We all still love Becchio, and the dire swap deal that brought Morison to the club was the straw that broke the Warnock camel's back in the end. He worked incredibly hard for the club, and crucially knew where the goal was, something our current players have had trouble with ever since he left. But would bringing him back really be a good idea? I think we need someone with a bit of pace and guile to make up for our lack of wingers, and Becchio certainly does not provide this. There’s also the possibility that sentimentality could override reason with Becchio, who is now 29 years old, and hasn’t scored a single goal since leaving the whites.

More Leeds United...
Adam Le Fondre
Current Club: Reading
Career Goals: 150
Last Season Stats: 34 Apps, 12 goals (many as a sub)
Is He Available? He’s still getting into the team at Reading for the moment, but he might become available for loan if Adkins’ plans to bring in a striker on loan come to fruition.
Is He Right For Us? Le Fondre would definitely get us goals, and Mcdermott will be familiar with his attributes. He’d also be more likely to join long term than the likes of Long and Guidetti. Le Fondre’s biggest weakness is probably that he’s a bit one dimensional, but as this happens to be one of the dimensions we really lack, who cares?
Overall Rating: 8/10
Current Club: Hull
Career Goals: 118
Last Season Stats: 46 Apps, 16 goals (many as a sub)
Is He Available? He’s clearly on the fringes at Hull, and probably for good reason given his abject recent goal record.
Is He Right For Us? If he could recreate his League One form of several years ago for Leicester – but in the Championship with Leeds - then yes. But let’s be totally honest here, Fryatt might have some pace but he's not shown himself to be a regular goalscorer at Hull or Leicester, and we'd be silly to bring a journeyman like him in given the amount of dead wood already in the squad.

Current Club: West Brom
Career Goals: 73
Last Season Stats: 37 Apps, 11 Goals
Is He Available? Seems to be on the fringes with West Brom, and a £5m transfer to Hull fell through in the summer. A loan move followed by a permanent signing isn’t totally out of the question, although Long will probably feel his place is in the Premier League after a couple of successful seasons there. Probably only linked with us on account of his being an ex-Brian Mac player.
Is He Right For Us? Long had real moments of quality in the Premier League for West Brom, and although he’s never found consistent form his chances have been limited by the arrival of big signings like Lukaku. He has pace, strength and a good right foot, and I predict he would tear up the Championship if we signed him today.
Overall Rating: 9/10
Current Club: Man City
Career Goals: 24
Last Season Stats: N/A
Is He Available? He’s the only player on this list we’ve not been linked to, but I thought I’d chuck him in as a dark horse anyway. City still haven’t given him a single League appearance in over 4 years at the club, and should be looking to offload their prodigious young Swede to ensure he gets some playing time. Although having said that, they didn’t bother last season…
Is He Right For Us? Guidetti netted 20 goals in 22 games for Feyenoord in the Dutch Eredivisie, nearly winning the title for them in the process. I’ll therefore go out on a limb and say he’d be amongst the best players in the division if he signed, but it’s obviously a big if.
