Do Pep and Jose have Louis to thank for their success?

Louis van Gaal has won plenty of trophies and managed fantastic sides, but it's the direct influence on people like Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho (amongst others) that really makes him the godfather figure he is.

His methods and tactical nous were questioned earlier in the season, but LvG has guided Manchester United to 3rd position in the Premier League and there's a real belief growing within the squad. United are back and with their dutch master at the helm, they look like they mean serious business. A good summer window could see them enter next season as one of the favourites for the title.

LvG's prickly nature with the media is refreshing and elements of his intelligence and wit can be seen in Jose Mourinho, who holds his own in a very similar way.

Another Dutch manager enjoying success is Ronald Koeman at Southampton. Koeman, like Mourinho, worked under LvG and has clearly adopted a similarly strict and intense regime on the Southern coast to get his team playing disciplined, efficient football.

Here's a great info-graphic showing LvG's connections to and influence on big figures in European football...
