Netherlands international and Ajax star Jasper Cillessen has stated that joining Manchester United "would be a great step" in his career.
The Oranje number 1 has worked with Louis van Gaal at international level and realises that if United approached him, it would be hard to turn down. He said: "I'm very happy here [at Ajax] I have only heard the rumours so I don't worry about it until I hear something from my agent.
"If I don't hear something from my agent, I enjoy playing at Ajax. I ask my agent, who also is Memphis Depay's, and he says we don't know anything.
"Of course, it's a great club, Manchester United, but I cannot do anything with rumours. It would be a great step."
Ajax manager Frank De Boer is afraid of losing his 'keeper to United. The coach, like his player, recognises the fact that it would be near impossible to stop Cillessen joining United if they were to bid.
"We want to keep him and he wants to stay, but if Manchester United come with a bag of money it can be difficult," said De Boer.
"We have to wait but the transfer period still has a long way to go."
Cillessen, 26, is seen as a potential replacement for outgoing 'keeper Victor Valdes as it becomes more and more likely that David De Gea will stay for one more year.
