Is This The Sami Khedira News Arsenal Fans Have Been Waiting For?
With Arsenal fans still trying to come to terms with the fact that one time golden boy Cesc Fabregas is now plying his trade across London, they'll be hoping that Wenger can bite the bullet and bring in the kind of quality in the middle that they haven't seen in a long time. The kind of quality that Wenger FINALLY brought in up top with the announcement of Alexis Sanchez.
Step forward German midfielder Sami Khedira, Arsenal transfer target for longer than we can even remember. The German's contract expires at Real Madrid at the end of the season, but it's long been presumed he'll return to his home nation and join Schalke when his time in Spain is up.
According to The Metro however, this week in an interview, Khedira made it clear that there's more than one club in his mind. When asked if he was still open to a move to Schalke after dumping them out of the Champions League this week, he replied with "I am still open to many teams".
Khedira - a brilliantly athletic, talented midfielder - joined Real Madrid after starring in the 2010 World Cup, but he missed most of last season with a serious knee injury, only making 13 La Liga appearances. Luka Modric was pretty incredible in his absence, and now Madrid are believed to be willing to cash in on the German midfielder.
At Arsenal he could play in either Artetas's, ahem, 'holding' position, or in Flamini's defensive battler role, so it's not hard to see why he'd be such a hit at Ashburton Grove.
