Liverpool Look To Portuguese Powerhouse Previously Targeted By Arsenal And Man Utd
According to the Mirror, Liverpool have turned their attention to Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho, who was previously targeted by both Arsenal and Man Utd. Despite Carvalho being a very different midfielder, Liverpool were prompted to shift focus from Roma's Miralem Pjanic because of his £37million price tag. The Portuguese 22-year-old would cost less, but not a huge amount so.
Carvalho is regarded as one of Portugal's brightest talents and his physical stature in combination with his eye for a pass make him a well rounded deep midfielder. Perhaps that's something Liverpool could use after Gerrard's gone and Lucas being well beyond the peak of his powers.
Arsenal and Man Utd's interest in the Portuguese midfielder seems to have cooled somewhat, but one mustn't rule out the possibility of rejuvenated interest from either club come summer, especially if Premier League rivals start sniffing as Liverpool have.
Liverpool will be looking to make inroads for a potential summer deal sooner rather than later and had Carvalho watched by scouts last weekend.
