Wayne Rooney put in one of his most disappointing performances in an England shirt against Italy, as Roy Hodgson's charges fell to dramatic elimination on penalties. Andy Carroll replaced Rooney's club team-mate Danny Welbeck in the second half and looked bright and busy during his cameo appearance.
