Liverpool's bid to sign Nathaniel Clyne moved a step closer after Southampton agreed a deal for the England international’s replacement.
The Reds are keen to bring Clyne to Anfield, and are set to make an improved bid for the 24-year-old after a £10m offer was rejected last month, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Southampton value the former Crystal Palace man at around £15m, and have offered him an extension to his contract at St Mary’s. However, they are now resigned to losing Clyne this summer after the player made it clear he was keen to join up with Brendan Rodgers.
They have already lined up his replacement, with a deal set to be finalised for Sporting Lisbon full-back Cedric Soares.
