It's becoming a familiar scene to Man Utd fans. Rooney playing in the midfield is not without its problems, and having the insight to release the ball at the right moment for the strikers is proving difficult for old Wayne. This moment from last night's game against Burnley was captured by Reddit user Shinkag and sums it up perfectly.

Here it is in gif form to give you a better idea.

The question is: what's going wrong?

Is Rooney uncomfortable playing in a distributors role and unable to see the through ball? Or is it a case of LVG's low-risk possession tactics making Rooney think twice before releasing? It's possible low confidence is making Rooney doubt his ability to thread the ball through and take the safer option instead. Or could it be Falcao is making his runs too early, appearing offside for too long for Rooney to play the ball. What we do know is it's proving to be a problem in United's game.
