According to the Sunday Times, Manchester United are in 'advanced talks' with Southampton for the transfer of right-back Nathaniel Clyne.
Clyne would be the second Southampton fullback in as many summer windows, with Luke Shaw joining last year. The fee for Clyne would be considerably less, however. The 21-year-old is valued at £18million.
Just like in the Fergie years, United are opting to do business early so that Louis van Gaal has as much time as possible with the new players before the new season kicks off. Their capture of Memphis Depay is a prime example of quick business.
Clyne would be an excellent addition as nobody has really held down the right-back role at United this season. He is one of the most promising young Englishmen in the league, which is in keeping with United's homegrown philosophy.
