Last week it was reported that Liverpool were clear to sign Roma's combative Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan, however now Corriere Dello Sport (in Italian) claim Manchester United are also very interested.
United were thought to be more interested in Nainggolan's teammate Kevin Strootman, but the Dutchman's injury problems are proving a concern for Louis van Gaal. So, instead, they've joined Liverpool in the race for Nainggolan who is worth £29million.
Nainggolan has been one of Roma's best performers this season and has attracted interest from all over Europe. The 26-year-old is co-owned by Cagliari, but Roma's failure to resolve the situation in January has left them all but powerless to prevent him from leaving in the summer.
Both Manchester United and Liverpool could use a physical, yet technically sound midfielder with a well rounded, box-to-box game. Nainggolan fits the bill perfectly. United will have the upper hand in any negotiations considering they look likely to have Champions League football next season, whereas Liverpool have seriously damaged their chances by losing to Hull on Tuesday night.
