Man Utd Ready To Outgun Arsenal With £60Million Bid For Star Striker
Louis van Gaal is on the hunt for a world class striker and has previously hinted that players like Robin van Persie and Radmel Falcao simply aren't scoring enough. According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are keen to beat Arsenal to Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani.
Cavani, 28, has long been a target of Arsene Wenger's and the Arsenal manager recently said that the squad need another 15 goal player. However, Manchetser United are confident that their financial superiority will see them outgun the Gunners. Cavani could cost up to £60million and United are willing to offer him huge wages, as getting rid of Van Persie and Falcao would clear up an extra £460,000 per week.
Cavani has come under criticism for not being as effective in Paris as he was in Naples, but the Uruguayan has managed 18 goals so far this season and has proven himself to be a consistent contributor.
Only last weekend Cavani had a touchline bust-up with his manager Laurent Blanc after being substituted in a huge game against Marseille. He has been relatively open about his feelings of uncertainty regarding his future.
He said, "For now I think only about finishing the season well here and give my best for the club that pays me.
"In Paris, I'm fine, but in football you never know what can happen in the future."
Unlike in Paris, Cavani would be the main man at Old Trafford. Even though Rooney is the talisman, Cavani can once again be the main goal-getter and not have to work around Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
With Wenger and Arsenal seemingly exploring other, younger attacking alternatives, Manchester United seem to be in pole position to land Cavani.
