Kun Aguero is again on every big club's wish-list this summer, with Manchester City lining him up to replace Carlos Tevez. But would they be wise to do so?

Who is he?

The little Argentinean, and Chelsea and Manchester City target, was a huge gamble for Atlético Madrid when the 23-year-old striker joined from Independiente in 2006 for a fee of €23m - an eye-brow raising sum for a modest club to spend on a wee youngster who was painfully shy and seemed far too girly and slight for the rigours of the Spanish league.

But Kun has turned out to be an outstanding success at the Vicente Calderón grabbing 74 league goals including 20 last year to single-handedly drag a struggling team into seventh and a sniff of European football last season. Despite being a club vice captain, adored by the fans who cry “Kun! Kun! Kun! - a chant UEFA once mistook for racism - and extending his contract with Atlético to 2014 in January, Kun announced at the end of last season that it was time to move on.

Supporters were upset, screaming betrayal, his bosses claimed incredulity at the footballer’s change in heart - although they agreed to knock his buy-out clause down from €60m to €45m, which must have been some clue at the time - but Kun is adamant that he deserves a bigger stage for his football. Few who have seen him play over the past few years could disagree.

Strengths

There is no need for hype with Kun Agüero with carefully edited Youtube videos to extol the Argentinean’s virtues. On a good day, the striker is as good as it gets in la Liga. Quick, surprisingly strong despite his size with wonderful close control and dribbling skills, Kun is a lethal finisher but can be frustrating for his team-mates with the Atlético player’s tendency to hog the ball - something that a record of just two assists in the last campaign reflects. Nevertheless, if a side are looking for a player to get the fans out of their seats at least once a game with something spectacular, then Kun is the footballer to deliver this.

The Atlético man has made it clear that he would like to stay in la Liga - preferably with Real Madrid

Weaknesses

Despite his bold and abrasive stance with his club, Kun is a wilting flower off the pitch. The Argentinean international is not a footballer than exudes calm and confidence - two attributes required to succeed in England. The Atlético man has made it clear that he would like to stay in la Liga - preferably with Real Madrid - so a move out of the city, never mind the country, could be a bit of an ordeal.

Whilst Manchester United have got their hands on David De Gea, a footballer with the maturity to cope with the pressures of pastures new, the same cannot be said for Kun Agüero who could be the new José Antonio Reyes in his ability to handle life in rainy, old England. Kun has the talent to succeed in the Premier League, whether or not he has the temperament to adapt to the culture and new life in Manchester must remain a doubt.

Chances of signing him

Atlético Madrid are playing hardball and claiming they want every cent of the €45m buy-out clause to try and appease some very angry supporters and also fund the purchase of a replacement.

Juventus are leading the chase at the moment with Real Madrid hanging back and looking at the lie of the land with Neymar. Were Manchester City to come in with a full cash offer or a deal involving a player swap then Kun could be there’s - especially as Atlético would have the last evil laugh by moving the forward to a league that he really doesn’t want to play in.
