Manchester Fan So Incensed By The Referee He Called The Police

Yes, you're mad about Nani's red, but alerting the authorities? That's taking things a step too far, even if United didn't deserve to lose.

Football is a passionate sport. Fans are regularly outraged by the actions of a referee that it can result in heated debates involving football fans, pundits or journalists eager to voice their opinion, unless it's Roy Keane, in which case his opinion is right and nothing else matters. Of course, you get mad, swear a fair few times, break some inanimate objects or, as one Manchester United fan decided to do, call the police.

Brought to our attention by @GrahamSmyth, one United supporter was so incensed by the actions of Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir that he or she decided to alert the authorities as to what had happened at Old Trafford. You see, Cakir opted to send off United winger Nani off in the 56th minute following a high challenge on Real Madrid full-back Alvaro Arbeloa during the 2-1 defeat to the La Liga side on Tuesday night.

With United in control of the tie, the red card all but swung the encounter back in the favour of Real, who netted a quick fire double in the 66th and 69th minute. Naturally, you need to do something to calm down. You drink some more, you send death threats to the referee on Twitter which you, hopefully, regret the next morning, but calling the police? That's a new one, right? It's only a matter of time before the fan in question press charges against Cakir...
