Meet The Flying Dutchman Man United And Spurs Are Battling For
PSV Eindhoven's Memphis Depay is one of Europe's hottest talents and this summer became the Netherlands' youngest ever goalscorer when he netted vs Austria in Brazil. According to the Express, both Man United and Spurs have watched the 20-year-old winger this season and are desperate to secure his services.
Spurs are said to have tried to sign the youngster last summer and see him as a replacement for Aaron Lenno, who's days look numbered at White Hart Lane. Despite showing rabona-shaped glimpses of class, Lamela has failed to step up and really impress as of yet, so Depay may have a chance to succeed where his fellow prodigious talent has thus far failed.
Man United are crying out for some dynamism in attack and Adnan Januzaj is as of yet failing to provide that. It's rumoured that Van Gaal isn't a big fan of the Belgian and doesn't think he's up to the task (not yet anyway), as a result United are willing to loan him out soon. Van Gaal loves Depay, however. Having managed him at the World Cup and trusting him to play the way he wants, the Dutch master may have the upper hand on his Spurs counter-part if any convincing needs doing.
So with two similar situations and needs, it seems this deal could come down to money. Memphis is valued at £15million, but if a bidding war starts, who knows how high the fee could end up. One would have to assume that United have the upper hand financially and with the Dutch connection, should be in pole position.
