Manchester United have recently been linked with some young left-backs after Luke Shaw's injury has rendered them short in the position.
Shaw is likely to be out for the season after a double leg break, and United are keeping tabs on Charlton's Morgan Fox, 22, as a possible addition.
Fox has broken into the Charlton side in the last year, and is highly thought of at the Valley, where he is expected to be awarded a new contract to fend off any Premier League interest in the player.
United are said to be exploring their options in terms of a replacement, with Aaron Cresswell of West Ham, and Charlie Taylor of Leeds United two possible additions. It's understood that Van Gaal is looking for young players to add to his squad, and will see the Welsh defender as a player he can develop, and who can deputise in Shaw's absence.
