As a nation the British are often accused - mainly by themselves - of being a country in terminal decline. One of the main criticisms is how we've become obsessed by the cult of celebrity and a moment captured at the Manchester United and Spurs game summed up the depths to which we've sunk.

Wayne Rooney's six-year old son Kai was a mascot at the match and a picture has emerged on social media of him signing an autograph for a grown woman who quite frankly, should know better. We realise football is now show-business but asking a footballer's toddler offspring for an autograph is a moment of sheer madness.
