Norwich End Of Term Report: Tranquilise Lambert And Keep Him Woozy All Summer

It was a season of great highs and not too many lows for Norwich, and if Lambert doesn't move up to Villa then we've got a real chance of repeating the trick next time around.

It was a season of great highs and not too many lows for Norwich, and if Lambert doesn't move up to Villa then we've got a real chance of repeating the trick next time around.

The ‘I f*cking love this game’ highlight of the season?

The win at White Hart Lane was amazing. The draw at the Emirates was a real ding dong, with the last dong belonging to us. The performances against Man Utd and Chelsea home and away were great for such an inexperienced side as us. We also beat a lot of the relegation candidates which served us well. Newcastle 4:2 at home was satisfying.

The season ticket shredding moment?

Not too many negative moments really. Sunderland away was horrendous. Possibly hearing Lambert’s rather vague comments concerning his future after the Villa game, thus fueling exit rumours. Maybe our chief exec should get out the tranq gun and keep him woozy all summer.

Moment that just about summed it all up?

The away games at Swansea, Spurs and Arsenal were great. Grant Holt’s thunderous header at Anfield, that left three Liverpool players on the floor typified us this year. Real spirit and we refused to park the bus against bigger clubs.

Got the right manager?

Yes and possibly no (if he’s left for Villa Park).

Player of the season?

Close call. Grant Holt won the award, but for me John Ruddy was incredible and played in very match bar one. To feel that confident in a keeper is rare for us. He made a few errors at the start of the season and then just grew and grew in confidence keeping goal behind a rather leaky defence. His saves-to-shots ratio was incredible.

What would you change next term if you were the gaffer?

I think we need a little more quality up front. Some of the players are overachieving, which is great, but you can’t really rely on them in the long term or if performances dip.

Which player would you like to sign?

Kyle Naughton (been on loan from Spurs this year), but I don’t think we can afford him.

Best goal?

I loved Holt’s turn and shoot in a crowded penalty area against Everton at Goodison. Sweet little move from a player unfairly painted as a brute. Elliot Bennet’s winner against Spurs, Steve Morison against Blackburn and Arsenal…

Biggest tosser?

It would be hard to pick just one ref, so let’s just say all of them. Staggering levels of ineptitude.

Best away pub?

The Faltering Full Back, Finsbury Park.

Best pie?

Don’t eat them.

Best chant?

At the Villa subs “You’re sh*t, that’s why Heskey starts, you’re sh*t…”

Player’s tweet of the season?.

Grant Holt winding up Swansea fans with his pride at being English, manifested in some of the worst grammar seen in his native tongue. I think one Swansea fan actually tweeted ‘Proud to be English, and you can’t even write in English’.

Best laugh you had all season?

Singing ‘your coat’s too big for you’ at Wes Hoolahan warming up on the touchline against Liverpool, who then threw his jacket into the crowd (the recipient put it straight on).

How do you plan to get through the summer without football?

Gardening. There’s weeds everywhere.
