Paul Lambert Confident That Liverpool Target Will Stay
According to The Daily Star, Liverpool lead the way in the chase for Aston Villa star man Fabian Delph, however Paul Lambert has warned suitors that he'll do everything he can to keep him at the club.
Lambert said, "Can we keep him? Yes. With Fabian it will not be about money. He's not a money-orientated guy. He just wants to play football."
Liverpool are thought to be eyeing Delph as a potential Gerrard replacement, making a summer move for the 25-year-old all the more likely. Lambert himself said that Delph wouldn't be out of place being held in the same regard as Gerrard. He said, "he has the confidence, he can mix with that company".
Lambert's strong stance is admirable, but his defiant words also come just before a clash with Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool side, so he'll be looking to instil some confidence and fighting spirit amongst his players and fans alike. When summer comes around, however, the allure of Liverpool may be hard to resist for Delph and ultimately it will be his decision, not Aston Villa's.
