It’s the silly season, love it or hate it?

When we had Ronaldo, I hated it, but now our best players aren’t being linked with a move away from the club on a daily basis, I don’t mind it half as much. The Sneijder/Nasri stuff is getting boring but at least we’re being seriously linked to top class players again.

What are you hoping to read every time you check your club news each morning?

“SNEIJDER: Finally I’m a United player!”

What do you inevitably end up reading instead?

“Sneijder agrees terms with United”, “Inter Milan claim no offers for Sneijder” and “Fergie plays down Sneijder link”.

Got much cash in the kitty?

Minus £800m? Who knows.

Hulking midfielder? Tricky winger? Big b*stard defender? What types of players would you like to sign this summer?

A world class creative midfielder. I think we’re covered well enough elsewhere. Not as many options at full back now though.

What types of player will you end up signing instead? An U21 Moldovan left back instead of Spanish international forward perhaps?

We’ve done most of our business already. Before the end of the season, I wasn’t desperate for us to sign Ashley Young, but now he’s here, I guess I can be hopeful that he will do well. The manager gets it right more often than not so hopefully United will bring out the best in Young.

Who wants to leave the club and what’s your attitude towards them?

I’m not sure anyone does. If anyone was going to leave, maybe it would be Nani? He was just voted our players’ player of the season but I’m sure he has aspirations of going elsewhere one day, particularly after not being able to get in the team towards the end of the season. It doesn’t seem to matter how well he does though, he’ll never be likeable. He’s very talented and I’m sure he’ll only get better, but he’s a cheat and not well liked by a lot of our fans.

Who has been the biggest tosser of this transfer window?

Craig Gardener. April 2007:  “I signed for Villa when I was 15 and since then these have been the best days of my life. I’m a Villa fan. I’ve come through the ranks and nothing can be better. I used to be on the Holte End.” January 2010: “Having played for the Villa everyone thinks I’m a Villa fan but I’m a Bluenose. I have been all my life. I was a mascot at John Frain’s testimonial.” June 2011: "It's unbelievable, to be honest. As soon as I found out Sunderland were interested, it was a no-brainer. It's such a massive club and their ambitions for this season meet my ambitions, and it was too good to turn down."

Reckon you’ll be stronger or weaker next season?
Stronger.

What has been the best ever bit of business your club did in the transfer window?

Eric Cantona for £1.2m in 1992. To put that fee in to perspective, Milan paid £13m for Gianluigi Lentini that year. He brought the glory days back to Old Trafford and inspired our generation of kids to be winners.

And the worst?

Juan Sebastian Veron I guess. He wasn’t bad at United but the impact he had didn’t come close to justifying the price tag. We’ve had some awful players at United, but in terms of bad business, he takes the prize.
