Pochettino Watches Dutch Star As Spurs Ramp Up Their Interest
According to The Mirror, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino flew out to the Netherlands to watch PSV star Memphis Depay in action against AZ Alkmaar. Scouts had sent glowing reports of the player who celebrated his 21st birthday earlier in the week, but Pochettino wanted a closer look for himself. Such a visit indicates that Spurs are very keen on bringing the Dutchman to White Hart Lane in the summer.
PSV are thought to want around £20million for Depay and Manchester United are also sniffing. Spurs will have to make a quick and calculated approach if they are to fend off financially superior opposition.
Despite Louis Van Gaal, who managed Depay at the World Cup, saying that he should remain in the Dutch league for another season, the player is keen to take the next step in his career as soon as possible. Depay could follow in the footsteps of Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen who both emigrated the Dutch League and ended up at Spurs.
