Alan Shearer is often derided for his punditry skills but he’s upped his game this season as the BBC coverage has gone for a less ‘matey’ approach.
One thing that Shearer definitely does know about it the art of playing as a striker and on Match of the Day this weekend, he had this to say about Manchester United’s misfiring forward Radamel Falcao.
“Defenders are quite content with Falcao getting the ball with his back to goal and it's easy.
“He's shoved off the ball too easily. He's got to start running towards the goal and running away from defenders, which defenders don't like - instead of facing up to the ball. He's got to start asking more questions.
“I'm saying to myself, 'Please move.' It happened all game and it's happened in every single game.”
It seems unlikely that Falcao’s spell at United will last longer than the end of the season, but if he wants to change that he could do worse than to listen to Shearer’s advice.
