Southampton carried on their recent form with a 2-1 win at Newcastle yesterday evening as their new signing Eljero Elia scored twice to make sure that the Saints went marching home with three points.
Ronald Koeman’s side remain in third place and ahead of several figures who left the club to supposedly go on to bigger and better things. The above table produced by football stat site Squawka shows that Southampton are ahead of the chasing pack of old-boys.
Luke Shaw is the closest his former teammates with his Manchester United side currently fourth. Next comes Koeman’s predecessor Mauricio Pochettino at fifth-placed Spurs.
Down is sixth is Callum Chambers at Arsenal, while the trio of Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren are way down in seventh.
The message is clear. Don’t bother to leave Southampton unless you can persuade Manchester City or Chelsea to sign you.
