The Daily Mail have claimed that Chelsea could have signed Dele Alli before the midfielder joined Spurs.
Their football writer Neil Ashton has reported that Chelsea scouts recommended that the club should make a move for Alli from MK Dons back in January, only for academy heads to argue that Lewis Baker (currently on loan at Vitesse Arneheim) was a better bet.
Tottenham eventually signed Alli for just £5m, remaining on loan at MK Dons until the end of last season. Since joining up with his new club in the summer, he's forced his way into both the first-team and the England side.
We haven't see much of Lewis Baker, but it looks like he's got a long way to go before Chelsea can claim that they made the right decision.
