Arsenal are finishing the season as the most in-form side in the Premier League, leaving Gunners’ fans to wonder just what might have been if the side had got off to a better start.
Arsene Wenger was beset with selection problems during the early weeks of the season as the injures mounted up and he was forced to play players out of position. Understandably results were unpredictable during this period and Arsenal lost valuable ground in the title race.
As the season has wore on the injury problems have eased and results have improved accordingly. The following graphic demonstrates how many points-per-game Arsenal have picked up, grouped by the amount of injuries the club was suffering at the time.
As the situation got better and Arsenal found themselves with six or less injured players - not a particularly rare number at most Premier League clubs - the points-per-game total shot up to a massive 2.7.
It begs the question as to whether Arsenal really need to buy more players in the summer or would be better served recruiting new fitness coaches and physios.
