Southampton's Nathaniel Clyne Is On Van Gaal's Wish List
According to The Mirror, Manchester United are set to revive their interest in Southampton's stand-out right back, Nathaniel Clyne. The 23-year-old has had a breakthrough season for a Southampton side performing well above expectation, earning himself a place in the England squad in the process.
Reportedly, United tried to sign Clyne before he moved to Southampton and, with no established right back in the squad, will now attempt to lure him away from St Mary's. His prowess in attack as well as defence may be the key factor in Van Gaal wanting to sign him up, as the Dutch manager prefers to play with wing-backs. By signing Clyne, United would have two, young English full-backs and would be a step closer to having a strong(ish) defence.
Clyne only has 18 months remaining on his current contract at Southampton, but the club are trying everything they can to extend it. However, Clyne himself may have already had his head turned by a Manchester United that look more than capable of returning to the Champions League elite this season under Van Gaal. And with further spending to come in summer, the most successful English club in history will be back in the mix for the title come next season. You don't say no to that, do you?
