Spurs: Cash In On Bale, Reinvest & Kill Off Arsenal

A Champions League spot is on the cards for Tottenham if they continue the 'AVBromance', as long as money is reinvested properly when Bale goes; but a top class centre-back has to be a priority.

Pre season: Good, bad or ugly? Ugly - just as we aspire to be one of the ‘Big Boys’ we have to deal with drawn-out transfer sagas involving our best players.  Bale is inevitably going to leave so can we just hurry along and get the cash in the bank so we can buy some more top quality players (Paulinho, Soldado, Chadli).  We’ve got rid of some of the passengers from last season.

Hopes for the season: 4th would be reasonable, 3rd would be great and 5th would be grudgingly acceptable if we finish above the Arse.

Fears for the season: We keep a disgruntled Bale who doesn’t perform, we fail to sign a centre-back, 2nd striker, left winger or left back, get knocked out of the cups by Wycombe, AZ Alkmaar and Stoke and finish 7th behind Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool and West Ham!

Absolute bare minimum you’ll accept: 5th with Arsenal in 6th or lower.  That said, if they finish 3rd and we came 4th that would be okay.

Fixture you’re most looking forward to? Opening game v Crystal Palace.  Would be excellent to hammer the newcomers to set our stall for the season.  Spurs often start really poorly and take a bit of time to warm up so a few early wins, especially if there’s a wide margin, would be a great way to show we’ve made progress.

Got the right manager? Absolutely.  His sharp navy suits, his bouffant ginger combover, his chat-line, gravelly voice - he’s not just a manager, he’s AVBromance.

By Christmas you’ll be… Finally rid of the cotton-wool brained Benny Assou-Ekotto and the pedestrian (although still excellent) Scott Parker, riding the crest of a wave just outside the top 2 with a game in hand and, with the new stadium build well underway, looking at an ever-improving club.

Player you’d most like to sign? We need a world-class centre-back so failing Joe Lewis investing in temporal technology and ensuring Signor Maldini sows his seeds closer to Morden than Milan, it would have to be Daniel Agger - he wants to go, he knows the league, he’s got a decent track record, what’s not to like?  If not him, go for Edin Dzeko as he’s so underrated it’s not funny anymore.

Which player should we look out for? I would have said Steven Caulker but the baffling decision to let him go is a very strange one unless we have someone epic to come in.  Andros Townsend did well last season, Harry Kane’s banging them in too for England but I like Jon Obika, who’s on loan at Charlton, and Iago Falque, who we signed from Barcelona.

Which player would you love to ditch? I can’t stand ‘Disco Benny’ and Kyle Walker is an absolute liability but all the bad eggs (William Gallas & David Bentley) have gone and we just need to move on Emmanuel Adebayor.

Opposition hate figure? Robin van Persie, Samir Nasri, John Terry, Luis Suarez, the usual suspects.

Tell us something we don’t know about your club? Tottenham’s first mascot wasn’t the famous cockerel but a parrot they adopted on the way back from an Argentinian tour in 1908 after a fancy dress party on the ship.  The parrot lived for over 10 years!

What won’t happen this season? Daniel Levy gets an offer for one of the squad and replies “Sure, why not, we don’t want him and you’re offering a reasonable price.  Let’s just shake on it.”

Favourite chant? Yid Army - but we’re not allowed to sing that anymore…

Where will you finish? 4th.

Any other news? Nice to see HP back on the front of the shirts instead of ‘Aurgasma’!

If you like it, Pass it on

This could be a good season or a Ramos style collapse Avb is losing Harry's golden team and building his own. The last time he tried this he failed at Chelsea getting rid of English and replacing them with untried foreign players. This is risky at the best of times but in the premiership it could be deadly. If we believe the rumors we will be losing and lost Caulker Hudds Parker Livermore two of them i agree with Parker Livermore but Hudds 26 coming back from 14 months injury is the only player who can beat pressing. What he does is look for players in space and can turn pressing into attack with one long accurate pass with backspin. What this means the ball stops dead at players feet meaning they can get behind tight defenses or in the City game through the middle. There is a very good reason i want him to stay running with the ball unless your Messi is harder with all the supplements out there for players to help there stamina levels double. this has caused a bank of 8 players all pressing the Ball with one striker and some times the only way out is long accurate balls out of defense. This is where Hudds shines just in front of the back four looking for runners to pass missile guided passes and also Dembel plays more up field and can be found with Hudds array of passes quarter back style.

I think bale will stay and if spurs want to win anything they should keep him for one more year. The media and his agent are trying their best to turn his head. But if he staus he will focus and perform. He isnt the type to do a modric or berbatov. Jonathan barnett is doing whats best for himself not bale

I agree davspur thud is worth keeping and I think avb knows this. He has played lots in preseason and is probably the best English dm when fit. On aanother note I'm really optimistic with how the squad is shaping up. If bale stays and roberto settles quick I think we will surprise a lot of people.. coys

Spanish teams do not tend to pay the money out in one lump sum. Thus if Bale does go to RM for £80M Spurs are unlikely to see half of that sum this year.

"When Bale goes...". Oh, have I missed something? Bale hasn't gone, and Spurs have a better team with him in it!

Re Agger - "He wants to go". Must have missed that story in all the Suarez hullabaloo...

why dont you guys write articles on this site? I thought that was the point? You cant just interview yourself, post it, and call it writing.

What. Is. This? Falque was signed from Juve, we already have two 'top class' CB's in Kaboul and Vertonghen, Dzeko nor Agger are going to happen in a million years for the obvious reason of being Liverpool's and City's direct competitors, BAE is one of the better LB's in the league. The end.

Thought this was about footy not abuse towards other players and teams, very small minded. Like the way the team is progressing, defensively inc midfield looks great, but would appreciate Coentrao, arguably one of the worlds top three LB's. rumour has Lamela on the cards, (too expensive,) that would be truelly outstanding.

My opinion on Thud, never liked him always pumped by the media, too slow, too clumsy and too overweight to be effective, how many of these fantastic passes has he made since back. He, like Livermore, good player but that's it, journeymen really, we need to move up in class; hopefully it's happening
