Toronto FC and England striker Jermain Defoe has completed his move to Sunderland, signing a three-and-a-half-year deal with the club. The 32-year-old played had already played alongside, and then under, Sunderland manager Gus Poyet during the first of the England striker's two spells at Tottenham.
There is a good chance that the ex-England international could make his Black Cats debut against Spurs this Saturday, and judging from some of the reactions below, there's a good chance he'll score too.
Defoe is 14th on the list of all-time Premier League goalscorers, with 124 from his time with Spurs, West Ham and Portsmouth. Whether he can still hack it in England's top division remains to be seen, although some fans are confident he can be a force for a Sunderland side desperate for more goals. And, on the bright side, Gus Poyet has managed to offload Jozy Altidore in the process - arguably the worst striker to ever play Premier League football. Anyhow, here's how Twitter responded to the news.
