Spurs: Seriously, Sign Ashley Cole Now Or Regret It

Ashley Cole's stock has fallen so low in recent months that there wasn't really that much surprise when he didn't make Hodgson's WC squad. Despite that, he's available on a free this summer, and Spurs should snap him up,

After being arguably the world's best left-back for the last decade and playing in every single international tournament game for England since the 2002 World Cup, Cole would add some vital experience and quality to the Spurs backline. With many of the club's new signings disappointing so far, the 33-year-old would guarantee solid performances for a few years at least.

Danny Rose is a decent left-back, if a little erratic, but when he's unavailable the other options are to move Jan Vertonghen, the club's best player, out of position or to play the awful Kyle Naughton. Cole doesn't get about the pitch like he used to, but he's still rock solid defensively. They'll need that if they're going to compete next season.

Miss out and regret it.

Cole started only 15 of Chelsea games in the league last year and has already announced he is leaving the Bridge. That would surely be open to a move that offers more football. Daniel Levy is notoriously averse to opening the chequebook, but he wouldn't have to pay a transfer fee. It's a move that makes sense for both player and the club.

Of course, signing Cole would also have the added bonus of winding up Arsenal fans.
