Arsenal are lining up Bayern Munich's Polish hit-man Robert Lewandowski if their bid for Real Madrid's Benzema fails, according to El Confidencial journalist Kike Marin.

The news comes after speculation of a secret back-up option to Benzema. Whilst the Frenchman is still very much on the cards, Arsenal certainly aren't setting the bar any lower with their alternative. It suggests that Arsène Wenger is desperate to add a world class striker to what is shaping up to be a title-challenging squad.

Lewandowski is contracted with Bayern until 2019, so if Arsenal were to ask for a quote, the German club wouldn't hesitate to demand a huge transfer fee. The 26-year-old hit 25 goals last season and provided 13 assists to boot. There's no doubt that Lewandowski's strength, presence and technical ability would see him thrive in the Premier League.
