Spurs are considering a move for the Schalke captain and Germany international Benedikt Howedes, as they seek to plug their leaky defence.
Howedes would bring serious pedigree to the Tottenham back four having been part of Germany’s World Cup winning side last summer. He was one of only three German players to play every single minute of the tournament.
The Mirror reports that Howedes is stalling on signing a new contract at Schalke and that Spurs are watching developments. Howedes is an extremely versatile player who can play in any position in the back four. This makes him an extremely attractive option for Tottenham considering that they are likely to reshuffle their centre-back options and have no obvious alternative to right-back Kyle Walker.
Here’s the player in action. Is this the right man to restore sanity to Spurs’ madcap defence?
